MCIS TO HOST FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL TRANSLATION DAY EVEN

By: Sheekha Sanghvi

MCIS is hosting its first ever International Translation Day event! In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Connecting Worlds’, our event will recognize and appreciate the effort and role of the translators in the intake and resettlement of Syrian refugees.

The work of translators has been crucial and imperative in providing an important service, which has helped refugees make Canada their home.

Our event will include an interesting panel session with participants who will be sharing their experiences working with refugees and translation. We will also take the opportunity to recognize the grant we have been awarded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to develop our language independent Translator Training.

As part of our networking evening, participants will be invited to take the stage and share the funniest moments in their career as translators. This translation activity will be an open mic event; anyone is welcome to participate by sharing bloopers and mishaps with colleagues. A special prize will go to the winner, who will be selected by the audience.

About the event:
Day: Friday, September 30, 2016
Time:  Registration opens at 5:30 p.m.
Location: Triovest Conference Centre, 789 Don Mills Road, Toronto, Ontario
Refreshments will be provided.
