TORONTO, October 22, 2020 – On Thursday, October 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., MCIS Language Solutions will honour top language professionals and partners at its virtual Annual General Meeting. Given the need for social distancing amid the current pandemic, MCIS believes that hosting this year’s AGM virtually is in the best interest for all stakeholders and the general public.
The virtual broadcast, to be held via Zoom, will allow all participants to attend the Business AGM where MCIS’ Chairperson Shash Anand and Executive Director Latha Sukumar will both speak.
“We are not going to let the pandemic get us down,” said MCIS Executive Director Latha Sukumar. “We think it is all the more important, in these uncertain times, to recognize with awards the extraordinary work of all those who have helped us remove language barriers so people in crisis could receive timely help. They have had to adapt to providing services remote, as we pivoted to technology platforms that simulated the face-to-face experience. We also have an exciting keynote who will speak passionately about her support for the Black Lives Matter movement, following her experiences living in the United States and Canada as a Black woman from Dominica.
Award to be presented are as follows:
Translator of the Year
This award recognizes outstanding contributions in translations, responsiveness, reliability, and technical skills. The winner is selected based on the nature, diversity and complexity of translation work completed in the past year, and consistent reliability to MCIS assignments.
Facilitator of the Year
This award recognizes outstanding contributions in removing barriers by guiding trainee interpreters and translators to meet their goals and achieve their objectives. The individual is dedicated to excellence in teaching, passion in passing on the knowledge and skills of language professionals, and respect in the classroom.
Interpreter of the Year Award
This award is presented annually to a professional interpreter who demonstrates excellence in services delivered, steadfast dedication to MCIS and the language industry, and professionalism in the field. The Interpreter of the Year is a person who MCIS can always depend on for assignments, and receives constant positive feedback from our service providers.
Community Partner of the Year
The Community Partner of the Year Award is presented to a partner organization that has collaborated with MCIS Language Solutions in its advocacy efforts to advance learning rights, improve access to critical information and services for vulnerable populations that experience language barriers.
Strategic Partner of the Year
The Strategic Partner of the Year Award is presented to a partner organization that has collaborated with MCIS through mutually beneficial initiatives, which advances MCIS’ capabilities in further reaching its beneficiaries through expansion and development of its language services.
Professional Partner of the Year
The Professional Partner of the Year award is presented to a partner organization that has shared its knowledge, experience, expertise and/or technology, which has in turn enabled MCIS to provide language services with higher quality, efficiency or cost effectiveness.
