TORONTO, NOVEMBER 22, 2018 – Toronto-based MCIS Language Solutions is honoured to announce that Latha Sukumar, Executive Director, has been named the recipient of the Social Change award at the 2018 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards. Presented by Women of Influence, and now in their 26th year, the prestigious awards recognize the country’s leading female entrepreneurs who have made impressive and substantial contributions to the local, Canadian or global economy.

Alicia Skalin, Co-CEO and Head of Events and Programming, Women of Influence Inc., congratulated the winners for their incredible achievements, and for inspiring future generations of female entrepreneurs. “The incredible growth of our program reflects the increasing number of successful women-owned businesses in our country and the growing diversity in industries across Canada. The 2018 winners have turned their personal passions—from art and fashion to development to medicine – into thriving businesses. They have earned the esteem of their peers and their communities and are truly paving the way for future female entrepreneurs.” explained Ms. Skalin.

Ms. Sukumar, was one of seven recipients celebrated at this year’s awards gala on November 22nd, following a record-breaking 7,400 nominees from across the country. The Social Change award is dedicated to a female entrepreneur that is an exceptional leader of a registered charity or not-for-profit that is dedicated to social change. Applicants have garnered extraordinary support from the community by being champions for philanthropy and volunteerism in Canada.

“I thank Women of Influence and RBC for providing women like me a platform to shine,” said Ms. Sukumar. “An immigrant who set out to create a better life for women and children, without knowing how I was going to achieve it, I found MCIS Language Solutions, which served as an incredible platform to achieve my dream. If this award sheds light on the work that MCIS’ language professionals, board and staff do helping vulnerable women, children and all marginalized groups, receive access to critical information and services, in their own languages, then it would have served its purpose. This recognition means all the more at a time when basic rights are under siege, world over. I feel honoured and privileged to be part of an incredible class of warrior women, all of whom are blazing a trail for other young women to scale, with passion and hope.”

MCIS Language Solutions is a non-profit social enterprise that has been relentlessly pursuing its goal to remove language barriers for over 28 years. With more than 70 staff and an engaging roster of over 6,000 language professionals, MCIS provides a full suite of over 50 different language services.
