At MCIS Language Solutions, we believe language access is more than a service. It is a foundation for participation, belonging, and equitable access to the systems that shape our lives.
We are proud to release our 2025-2026 Sustainable Development Impact Report, which explores how language access contributes to healthier communities, reduced inequalities, and stronger institutions across Canada.
Using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework, the report highlights how MCIS’s Social Benefit Initiative (SBI) Fund contributed to three priority areas:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
While language access is embedded across all of MCIS’s service offerings, this report focuses specifically on the additional impact generated through the Social Benefit Initiative and related community investments. Through subsidized language services, training opportunities, advocacy efforts, and community-led initiatives, MCIS helped address language access gaps for individuals and communities who might otherwise be unable to access these supports, including many newcomers and members of equity-deserving groups.
Addressing Language Access Gaps Through Community Investment and Advocacy
The report demonstrates how language access creates impact across multiple sectors, including healthcare, settlement and immigration, justice, education, employment, housing, and social services.
Highlights featured in the report include:
- The impact of the Social Benefit Initiative (SBI) in supporting equitable access to essential services and training programs that strengthen professional capacity.
- The MCIS Language Advocacy Microgrants Program, which funds community-led projects advancing language access, linguistic justice, Indigenous language revitalization, multilingual education, and innovative language learning solutions.
- MCIS’s ongoing support of the Language Access Coalition of Canada (LACC) and Language Advocacy Day (LAD), helping advance a national conversation about language access as a matter of inclusion, participation, and equity.
Why We Measure Impact Through the SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals provide a globally recognized framework for understanding how local actions contribute to broader social change. By aligning our work with the SDGs, we can better understand, measure, and communicate the impact of language access on the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
The report also highlights the interconnected nature of this work. Language access not only contributes to better health outcomes, but also supports poverty reduction, gender equality, education, decent work, community inclusion, and access to justice.
