Hear from passionate language allies who will share their unique stories and experiences, highlighting the importance of Canadian multilingualism and language rights.

Speaker Highlights:

We have three amazing language allies who will present their stories that advocate on their experience.

Leah Riddell: A bilingual inclusive educator, ASL instructor, and advocate for accessible communication. Leah empowers individuals and organizations to embrace effective communication practices, celebrating the richness of ASL culture and building meaningful connections in schools, workplaces, and communities. Passionate about bridging gaps, Leah dedicates to creating a world where accessibility is the foundation for connection and understanding.

Gail Prasad, PhD: An Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at York University. Gail’s research examines social representations of linguistic diversity and promotes critical, creative, and collaborative approaches to multilingual language awareness. She is a co-editor of Multilingualism & Education: Researchers Pathways and Perspectives and has published extensively in both English and French.

Nuzhat Abbas: A writer, critic, and founding editor of trace press. Nuzhat is committed to promoting transnational, anti-imperialist, and decolonial feminist perspectives. With years of experience in the arts, education, and social justice, she has taught courses on literature, gender, conflict, and migration, and curated cultural events. Nuzhat’s work focuses on conflict, displacement, and the politics and possibilities of translation.
